Last.fm is gonna charge 3 dollars a month...
...but not for people who live in Germany, the UK and the USA.
"In order to keep providing the best radio service on the web, we need to ask our listeners from countries other than USA, UK and Germany to subscribe for €3.00 per month. In return you’ll get unlimited access to Last.fm Radio, and a promise that we’ll be hard at work improving the service for years to come."

Seems wrong, and silly. Why stop at borders and not charge everyone?

I wish Pandora would do the same. I'd gladly pay a couple of bucks a month.
fuck'em, I'm signing out
Why stop at borders? Because advertising is only effective to targeted demographics. American companies aren't going to pay for advertising outside of American borders, and there probably aren't enough companies advertising to other nations to make it a viable business anymore.
Signing out as well.
You fscking scared me there, dude. Turns out they're only going to be charging for the radio service.
"Everything else on Last.fm (scrobbling, recommendations, charts, biographies, events, videos etc.) will remain free in all countries, like it is now."
i've never even used the radio functions on last.fm. if they started charging for the other shit i'd weep a little.

oh sorry, for me the 'radio' function is lastfm's most important function, by far.
you scrobble -> last.fm knows what you like -> you get 'radiostations' full of music you like
(or you type in an artist/genre/event -> you get music like that artist)
I'm a slacker.com man myself. Except thier ads have become longer as of late. You'll still never hear one more then 30 seconds and never more then once in a hour.
Whatever. I have converted to spotify.
