Zero Punctuation: Ghostbusters The Video Game

videosiftbannedmesays...

I'm starting to get tired of Yahtzee. Sure he's ball-busting funny at times and has taken the place of Dennis Miller with all the esoteric references and other errata, but he's gotten too "damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't" for me. For this example, the game revists the old areas of the movie and faithfully recreate the proton streams, he bitches. If the game didn't do those things, he'd bitch because it didn't. I guess he's figured out that sells to his angst-ridden fanbase, so milk it for all it's worth.

Zzzzzzzz.

Yeah, it's a cool game. It is genuinely funny, much more so that Yahtzee gives it credit for, and feels very Ghostbustery. The controls are fudgy, but that was deliberate - the Ghostbusters' equipment is jury-rigged, homemade, clunky, difficult to use and causes thousands of dollars of collateral damage. The central catching-ghosts mechanic is enoromous fun, and seeing the locations and ghosts from the movies is a treat.

It is, after all, called "Ghostbusters the Video Game". If it weren't a video game version of Ghostbusters, I'd be disappointed.

this game was amamzing, however some of the things he said do stick out like sore thumbs, i cant tell you how many times i sat at my pc SCREAMING at the top of my lungs for some jackass to get the living hell out of my way. for a few days you'd think my dogs name was dan akroyd i yelled at him so god damned much, beyond that there were more times then id like to admit where i spent more time waiting to be resurrected by my 'friends' because i couldn't even tell WHAT THE F*** just hit me. but beyond all that it was a fun game, it had its moments, and srsly fighting mr staypuft == ownage

Yahtzee doesn't review games, he comedically skewers them. It's like how Jon Stewart treats cable news; he doesn't grade them the quality of their reporting, he rips them a new asshole.

Yahtzee hates everything that isn't Portal, but he makes you laugh (even when he's saying he doesn't hate Portal).

He doesn't really help you sort the wheat from the chaff.

I hardly ever agree with Yahtzee. I mean, his complaints are valid in many cases, but most of them are never enough to keep me from enjoying a game. There are a lot of good games with broken or sloppy gameplay/mechanics yet are still fun to play.
