Sagemindsays...The elastic is absolute fail, unless you are using a fondant coating on the cake. Most cakes use frosting.
lucky760says...You don't have to push it back together with your hands. You can slide a spatula underneath to lift and shift.
I think it would still be an improvement without the help of a rubber band.
