WikiLeaks continually makes the US government shit its pants

I can understand that kind of language from crazy radio hosts, who gives a shit about them, but from the lawmakers of the country and the "Leaders of the free world" this kind of talk is worrisome and frightening.

It really bothers me how some Liberals or Libertarians...or "College Kids" have noticed that Wikileaks exists and talk about how it's changing the game...and we're learning soo much from it about how the world works. Now it's true that we're learning a BIT about what's going on today...but not about how the world works or the US government. It's always worked in this way, seriously I want all the smug, aggressive, moronic people who think of themselves as hardcore for being against the government to pick up The Pentagon Papers sometime. Seriously it's a good read, COINTELPRO...kind of IMPORTANT.

I'm just sick of idiot 20 somethings talking to me as if they know something. You're an idiot, and you know NOTHING.

Hi Newt. Pricewarfare is warfare. I call for the immediate intervention between the decades old war between Wallmart and Target.

Oh and without looking anything up, name one piece of information leaked, other than the helicopter gunship footage, that constitutes calling for his death. Face it, America is just embarrassed.

Hey hey hey dont tell on us!!! OH yeah well then your a terrorist!! Yeah terrorist!!! Burn him at the stake he's a witch....oh wait I mean a terrorist! 1942 Germany anyone? Sounds like a witch hunt to me. So now anyone that wants to expose the truth is a terrorist. Wow this country is going down the drain.

In retrospect, I think Assange should have made an effort to only release information that revealed corruption or wrongdoing. I don't see much point in leaking classified information just for the sake of releasing classified information. Less wikileaks, more wikiwhistleblowing. Were there any other major bombshells other than the 'Collateral Murder' video? And what ever happened to those supposed leaks that were to bring Bank of America to its knees? Daniel Ellsberg he is not.

Yogisays...

Yeah he is definitely not Daniel Ellsberg. Of course people are going to focus primarily on Assange and not on people who are working hard to responsibly leak information that has a purpose.

I find it endlessly hilarious how an Australian citizen can be a traitor to the US...

I know our government bends over on demand but we are not yet actually amalgamated...

bank does terrorist banking, nothing.
this guy releases useless documents that has yet to lead to anything really convicting. kill him.
so never watching cnn or msnbc or any corporate news

I wish somebody would shoot Assange, the self important prick. As to the various americans going off on one, understandable reaction given the info leaked but they didnt exactly send out the hit squads did they? Now, years later nobody gives a shit about him, except of course for nonsense like this. Dramatic music! Cut phrases! Horror! Not really.

Tl;dr - Old, yawn.

I actually disagree. My interpretation of the wikileaks approach is that transparency in government is important. They release a whole lot of information that they believe the citizens of respective countries deserve access to should they choose. The fact that most of it is banal or not evidence of corruption is not the point, in my opinion. The fact is, our governments do so much wrong while hiding behind weak claims of 'national interest' in their secrecy - and the trend of secrecy grows. I think what wikileaks does is make those in governments think about what they do behind the veil, because it may one day be out in the open at a time not of their choosing.

Working with government from time to time, I see some merit in this argument.

I respect that, but I do think there is a place for privacy in government.

99.9% of what was released in that wikileaks dump was mundane information. We've reached a point where we reflexively classify everything. In this circumstance, it's fair to release everything, including the mundane, because hiding information that shouldn't be classified in the the first place is a form of corruption.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that the benefits of transparency far exceed those of privacy in government. When you see what is kept secret and why in most circumstances, you find it harder and harder to justify on public benefit grounds.
