That kid was just hit, not by a mailbox, but by the sudden realization that no one is there for you in life. Good on 'im for getting up relatively quickly (9sec?) and walking home under his own power. Valuable lesson learned that day.

This title is bordering on linkbait. "What happened to the mailbox? Mystery solved within!"

Why? Kids learn many valuable lessons by getting hurt. I couldn't list a quarter of them. For example - knowing not to go faster than you can handle, when your parents are no longer around crying won't help, keep your wits even when you're hurt etc.

If he finds this video he also learns the lesson that even if you think no one is watching, someone probably is.
