Starship Troopers is such an underrated story/movie! The satire over a totalitarian world government is precious.

Ever read the book?

It wasn't satire. Just fun science fiction.

And those suits they wear? They are supposed to be (essentially) mech suits.

:: Really wishes someone would remake ST more along Heinlein's original vision ::

As usual the BOOK beats the movie. WTF if they are in the future why are they still using the old still bullets and weapons??? BTW the dude who came up with the idea of mandatory military service was Hitler! Go marines!

I'm sorry, but I'm fairly certain that there have been quite a lot of versions of mandatory military service long before Hitler. Now, if you want to thank Hitler for some innovations, try this on for size: Hitler was a pioneer in animal rights and was responsible for giving the modern Olympics all of its pomp and circumstance (before that it was a much more subdued event which lacked all the ceremonial marching, flags, and the actual interlocking circle logo).

Spartans did it way before then.

When I read the book I found it to be a huge case for militarization of citizenry and government. With the subtle mention that its altruistic mission to defend itself was actual a lie based around attacking the 'bugs' first.

Hitler and Himler walk into a meeting with the rest of his high ranking generals. They'd obviously been arguing but nothing was said. Hitler walks to the head of the table and says "Gentlemen, we are going to build gas chambers to kill one million Jews and one dog!"

The rest of the generals look puzzled and Goebbels says "Why one dog?"

Hitler turns to Himler and says "Ha! I told you no-one would care about the Jews!"
