Rick Sanchez presumably fired from CNN

Rick Sanchez is no longer with CNN after making controversial remarks about Jon Stewart. He begins by calling Stewart a "bigot".

"Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company," according to a statement from CNN. "We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well."

This clip is audio of the remarks Sanchez made on XM's "Stand Up with Pete Dominick".

I, at times, found myself supporting some things Sanchez said and/or did. He had his moments. Overall, however, I found him an egotistical buffoon and I won't miss him.

Could have kept his job with a simple "okay maybe bigot is not the right word... what I mean is bully" backpedal. But in every clip I see of this guy he is saying incredibly dumb shit and then sticking with it. Totally cringeworthy.

I think the problem is that 'bigot' has two meanings. It could be that Sanchez might have meant 'bigot' in the sense of 'someone who remains stubbornly adherent to their own preconceived views', but Dominick took the word to mean 'racist, sexist or otherwise discriminatory'. Both definitions are in common usage. Sanchez might have a defensible point if he means the former (I'm not saying I agree with him, mind), but in any case the failure to establish which meaning he intended is his major mistake.
