notarobotsays...Silica gel?
bareboards2says...From their website:
What are they made of? Can you eat them or chew on them to make them explode? If so, will the water taste funny?
A: Spitballs are made of polymer. You could bite/chew one to make it explode but they should not be eaten. We haven't tasted one or the water we grew them in. We prefer fresh, clean drinking water.
I don't know what "polymer" is. Maybe silica gel?

bareboards2says...Ah. Here's more info:
Q: What are these made off?
A: They are made of cross linked polymers.
I still don't know what a polymer is.

messengersays...Looks like they also have the same refractive index as water since they're pretty much invisible when submerged.
