Then she started talking about how the leaves were still on the trees (they are banana trees; they never 'lose' their leaves) and this showed that fall hadn't started yet (it's July, it's not fall anywhere in the world. More importantly, there aren't four seasons in the Philippines (i.e., no fall), only dry season and rainy season.)

Also, some suggestions that it is probably volcanic ash falling from an eruption in 2009.
