More Guns Less Violence? Come On are they serious?

As reported on FOX News.

I must say when I first heard this I felt sick to my very core - now I'm just angry as hell. There is something seriously wrong with a country where a psychopathic man can buy a gun in a supermarket and where politicians believe that the solution to gun crime is more guns. I'm sure the founding fathers are turning in their graves at the way that the constitution has been twisted and perverted by the gun lobby to ensure that any disturbed or angry person can buy a gun and go on a killing spree.

America can't go backwards-Backwards to sayyy 60 years ago, when there was no crack cocaine, identity theft, a manageable prison population, wholesale numbers of illegal immigration, stable incomes, agriculture in the hands of small farmers, a simple, universal ethics and morality based sensibilities, no federal income tax, this list could go on and on and on, and it would describe a society that was on its way to becoming something worth protecting, investing in, and developing......Now-had that gun-free zone at the college been non-existent, there is a possibility that someone with a gun would have walked into the fray, instead of the security guards running away from the chaos-Speaking for myself, I would have.

Chaos. Which is the order of the day in the U.S.A. in most urban areas, and bound to get worse, before it gets better.

So, dumbshits that want to embrace the "flowers in gun barrels mentality", in a paradigm controlled for the most part by the manufacturers of war, cash-based economies, and ineffectual politics....can drop some LSD and decorate yer VW with slogans.....

In this country, you are an idiot if you advocate getting rid of guns, cause, guess what dumbasses???

The criminals will always have them, and criminals are what America seems to be breeding wholesale nowadays....

Understandably, the Canadians are sort of off the hook for their no-gun perspectives, the Brits should have learned but didn't after WW2, and Americans who advocate legislation to rid the country of guns, are de-evolving, self-loathing, and ignorant.

choggiesays...

been to Alaska, loved it.....one of the sensations and awareness while there, is that folks don't have a lot of spare time for BULLSHIT! But they do have enough time to wave while walking down the street...oh yeah, not much crack cocaine there either.......to bad for all ya rabid, ungrounded, college kids......

oh, and aren't addicted to the fucking television, especially for the purpose of screaming at a wall to affect change.......

It pretty much doesn't matter whether guns are banned or everyone has guns. Its naieve to think that the availability of handguns/guns has any bearing on the amount of violence.

What is it, Sweden, where household is required to have an assault rifle? Not much violence it that country compared to the US. Guns have nothing to do with it.

farcraftersays...

Thank you choggie for the voice of reason. Blaming guns for violence is on par with blaming video games, music, evolution, or role playing games. We need personal responsibility, not blame. And when everyone has guns, and understands gun safety, they are just another thing like cars. Do we recall the feeling of freedom and empowerment that we expected a car to give us before we could drive, before we understood the cost and responsibility of having a car. Guns have a similar aura of empowerment to some, but they would not if guns were just another, everyday thing. As they are in places with less gun violence. People could just as easily go plow through populated places with cars, and we could just as easily pass legislation to make cars weigh 100 pounds and have big rings of pillows around them and flashing orange lights. But that sounds stupid because we (try to) teach people how to be responsible with cars. Besides the obvious argument that people who should not have guns, criminals and psychopaths, can always get them. I do not own any guns, but I am more comfortable knowing that my neighbors do not have to break the law to own a few.

Upvote because (for once) I agree with fox, not for the usual laugh at their expense.

Farhad2000says...

Advocating the ownership of guns in the US blanket wise as Fox is talking is just crazy, because you're clearly ignoring why such violent gun crimes occur in the first place. Canada has pretty much the same gun ownership laws as the US, yet we have almost half the violent crimes committed with guns.

I just don't see the point of giving guns to a population so easily pushed into fear by the media. I can just see a legion of suburban mums taking pot shots at the nearest minority that happens to approach their vehicle. And you are telling me everyone who can buy a weapons would necessarily go into weapons training? You know how to aim, how to check for background targets and so on?

Kreegathsays...

Sweden has extremely restrictive gun laws and you'd be VERY hard pressed to find anyone with anything other than a hunting rifle, which you need to pass a thorough background check for as well as getting and continuously retaking a license.
I personally have never held a gun, nor do I ever wish to do so. I won't pretend to know the best course of action in the US concerning this issue, but as an idea to give you a new perspective to this apparently hot potatoe, wouldn't you save lots of trouble with these incidents by just shutting down all your colleges and instead holding your courses over the internet, thus saving people the trouble of leaving their homes and putting themselves in danger of being gunned down and/or having to gun down someone else? Perhaps that would be preferable to equipping everyone with weapons.

farcraftersays...

It is, for me, two related debates. It is safety vs freedom, and it is government intervention vs not. I generally favor freedom and non intervention. For either to work, people have to be responsible. But for the last few decades, the pendulum has swung towards coddling everyone and suing every time people spill coffee on themselves, and responsibility has been lost. In a country where people cannot be trusted to drink hot beverages, guns seem like a far stretch. But the only thing that has ever been down the road to safety is the police state or the matrix, and I hope the country will turn around soon. If we were going to license things, and have lots of government intervention, I would rather see bearing children licensed than bearing arms.

gwaansays...

From the perspective of a non-American, this is an issue on which there should be no debate - the more guns there are the more potential there is for people to be killed - period! Fuck the NRA and fuck anyone who thinks the right to bear arms is
is a right which is worth fighting for.

I'm on the 'less guns, less deadly violence' side here.

I'm pretty sure I would've been shot dead long ago by someone I pissed off instead of just getting beat up had they actually had access to a gun.

If a person gets pushed into a homocidal rage and they have access to lethal weapon I'm pretty sure they'll end up using it.
If a person gets pushed into a homocidal rage and they don't have access to a lethal weapon they might simmer down and think twice before doing something.. or just resort to some fisticuffs.

I'm sure we'll all end up walking around with personal nuclear bombs eventually, though..

mysdrialsays...

More guns is obviously not the answer, and a reduction in the number of guns (or the legality of Assault Rifles and Hollow Point bullets? Why should they be SELLING those to everyday people?) will help. But there's more to this than just the guns...there's something wrong with the people who get them, and the culture that pushes them to this point.

Farhad2000says...

Assault rifles aside how come you can purchase anti-material military grade sniper rifles? Sure buy it but there has to be some sort of goverment check so the next Timothy McVeigh doesn't have access to it.

krumzysays...

If every man has a gun in his glove box, chances are he is going to use it. Im not against guns, as far as im concerned the Kalashnikov belongs in a museum right next to any other piece of history, but there is no reason for the common man to carry a gun in a civilized society. The original reason for the right to bare arms was to overthrow a government that gains too much power. Seeing as today the majority decides how the state should be run (at least in theory) there really is no need for guns, and seeing that if they were to be used to overthrow a tyrannical government (and most likely install another tyranny) the last four years have given plenty of opportunity to do so.

I can't really understand how people can support allowing anyone to own a gun (maybe it has something to do with the gun-phallic symbol connection). I play airsoft and understand the thrill of firing a gun, but the issue of safety for the community really outweighs everything else. Even with the strictest regulations the people who shouldnt have a gun ( and there are alot of them out there) can get ahold of a gun, and that risk outweighs the rights on the individual. Plain and simple.
