Mercedes Creates An "Invisible" Car

Can you spot the car in the thumbnail?

When Mercedes wanted to promote its new fuel cell vehicle, instead of placing it squarely in front of everyone in the world, the company decided to make the car invisible. -yt

Watch something like this be the next big thing in crazy Fast and Furious car mods. Even if you didn't cover the windows, you could turn your car into a rolling video display. It'd be awesome for any kind of promotion

Most fuel cell vehicles get hydrogen from natural gas = emissions (though less than gasoline vehicles).

However, another problem is that fuel cell vehicles are incredibly inefficient, in the ways of 47%. As a comparison, gasoline vehicles are about 37% efficient while electric vehicles are 99% efficient.

It's certainly no magic bullet, but it's better than the shit we have now, that's for sure.

I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. I'm pretty sure the effect would only work from one angle, as otherwise the same LEDs would need to be able to display different information depending on your viewing angle. So yea, the car is "invisible" from exactly one position.

bmacs, I am sure the farther away from the target, the less likely you notice the aspect change. That said, Benze did like, the LEAST AMOUNT of work they possibly could on this.

#1 The LED screen is pretty low resolution, there are tighter nit LED screens out there. IMO they should have hooked up with one of the many R&D departments out there and used a cloth/paper flexable LED tarp.

#2 They only did one side, why not the other? Heck, have a third one for the top screen, it wouldn't be under the car but instead on the pumper to sample the ambient lighted area around it and create a floor pattern to use. The up/down shot would require a bit more work but would be even more impressive.
