Landings at San Diego Int Airport Timelapsed

Obviously not a real timelapse so I wonder how it was made. Each plane was masked out of the background with a little user assistance, I'm guessing. I wonder if the original velocities were preserved. Also, I wonder if the vertical ordering is roughly correct. The creator of this would have to sort of guess which planes should occlude the others.

I live in San Diego, and this is not time-lapsed...they really come in this frequently. No, I kid...however San Diego is one of the hairiest landings in the US. The winds combined with the buildings that line up with the runway make it a difficult approach. There's this parking structure that if you're on top of, you can practically touch the belly of the airplane as it goes over.
