fireflysays...Now THAT guy knows how to handle a blade, unlike this dummy!
Farhad2000says...My favorite anachronistic weapon...
Goofball_Jonessays...Um...ok, he's hitting something that slices. How about a big solid stump of wood, or something else. How about wrapping the thing that he's slicing in Kevlar? Would like to see that, you know...just to see what would happen.
gigersays...Is that Steven K. Hayes? The coolest American Ninja ever!
*P.S.* Going through wrapped bamboo like that is impressive. Imagine that going through your flesh.
Farhad2000says...Goofball_Jones, he's cutting bamboo-stitched mats, it roughly represents the resistance that would be offered by the human body.
Farhad2000says...And Wumpus, DemonStration.
bamdrewsays...i don't like the ones where his blade is already drawn
Goofball_Jonessays...Would like to see him go up against a guy with a baseball bat. Picture this, the blade swings down and the guy blocks it with the bat...then the blade goes about half way into the wood of the bat and gets stuck...then the guy with the bat just rips the sword from the guys hands then goes over and just starts beating the piss out of the unarmed samurai. I mean, come on...that would be sweet.
I just love the irony of someone that trains for years and years in a martial art and then is totally nullified by some drunken redneck. But I'm a sick puppy....
Farhad2000says...Goofball_Jones, In Kendo, they realized that a long time ago, Katanas would get stuck mid strike, or worse mid cut leaving you basically open to attack with no weapon. So the whole emphasis when you learn Kendo is on using the first 1/3 of the sword, in sweeping motions to cause deep cuts. So your scenario seems unlikely.
Just watch this video and this you'll understand what I mean.
cobaltsays...I love the noise it makes as it goes though
BoneyDsays...That's the funny thing giger, in the old days they did do demonstrations on flesh. They would use convicted criminals to test the quality of blades, of which there were many (since the punishment for most crimes was death).
Good times...
lucky760says...Makes you realize just how difficult it would be to cut a person in half.
