I'm not Pro-Pot, I'm Anti-Ridiculous

He looks like a classic stoner but has a very good point to make - the medical industry uses so many harmful 'medical wonders' and considers marijuana barbaric.

The whole reason it's illegal is that otherwise the pharmacological, alcohol-fed, and law enforcement industries would suffer greatly.

Like Bill Hicks, I believe that smoking of marijuana should not only be legal, it should be mandatory. Squeegee that third eye people.

Actually for those who are predisposed to it, it can be very addictive. You can also OD on it, it just takes a lot of effort and stupidity on the part of the user. I have known people to go into shock after smoking too much.

The same can be said for alcohol, and it's legal.

The biggest problem the movement to legalize marijuana has is all of the hippies and stoners that won't shut up about it. It has a bad image. I don't believe any conspiracy theories about why marijuana is illegal. This may have been true back when it was first outlawed though, but it was also largely because marijuana was associated with black people and Mexicans and racism was very in vogue at the time. The primary reason it's illegal in the US now is because the voters think it should be, and because there is no politician who wants to be associated with leniency on drugs for that reason. If enough people wanted it to be and were willing to vote towards that end, it would be legalized.

It is a drug, and there are plenty of good reasons not to use drugs for the purpose of recreation. An important thing to take into account is that of the two, psychological and physical addiction, psychological addiction is the worst by far. You can totally cure physical addiction with a few odd weeks in detox, but people spend their entire lives struggling with psychological addiction. Really, the worst thing about physical addiction is that it powerfully reinforces of psychological addiction.

Marijuana isn't physically bad for you either, but neither is heroin. Even the more harmful drugs aren't particularly bad for you in moderation. Besides, whether or not something is "unhealthy" isn't a very good argument for why it should be illegal. Sunshine and french fries are also bad for you in excess.

Personally, I believe that all drugs should be legalized. It isn't as though the only reason I don't shoot up methamphetamine is because it is illegal, and the fact that it is illegal wouldn't stop me if I wanted to. I don't think the government should be in the business of protecting people from themselves, particularly when they're just going to go ahead and do it anyways, filling the jails up with people who aren't a threat to anybody other than themselves.

More to the point, terminally ill patients should be able to do whatever the hell they want to do. You would have a hard time arguing that someone who is at death's door shouldn't do something because it's unhealthy. If it makes them feel better, if it makes what's left of their life a little less horrible, I would feel pretty bad denying it to them.

Er... I typed too much. I could go on but it would be boring.

Abuse does not equal addiction. I can become an alcohol abuser (i.e., a drunk) very easily, but no matter how hard I try, I doubt I can really become addicted, based on my drinking history. Addiction to cannabis is impossible (chemically, anyway, which is all that really counts when you're determining legality because you can be psychologically addicted to anything). Overdosing is also impossible, and I don't think you really know what "going into shock" means: linky

Your friends who did not go into shock were probably just really, really stoned.

I'll have to agree with aero about the bad image with folks that toke. It's just a shame that so many folks are misinformed about weed. I don't know if all drugs should be legalized tho, it would just make things that much easier for addicts and really sick people to get ahold of their fix. Not that I'm saying that they can't do so already. I just think legalizing everything would send the message that it's alright to move onto harder drugs. Your average joe is going to be less inclined to experiment with anything when it is illegal to do so.

to OD on pot means you have to smoke your body weight in an hour. that is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Nobody tells me what I can and can't do! I take that as a challenge! Now if I could only afford my weight in mary jane...

Less inclined, I don't know. One could argue that it's inaccessibility increases it's desirability, that people want things more when they can't/are not supposed to have them. Less able, yes.

someone posted a video about making pot and other drugs legal in the US about a year ago. There where law enforcement agents, politicians, and other officials in the video say that drugs should be legalized in the US because millions of dollars was being spent each year to keep the drugs out, yet more and more drugs are getting in anywho. Trying to keep it out is just a waste of tax money and legalizing drugs isnt going to increase or disrupt day to day life. you may have a few more casual smokers or what not, but its not going to cause havoc. hell there is nothing wrong with smoking a joint once or twice a year. it calms you down and helps you sort shit out. i dont see a problem with that. it is rediculous with some of the laws that are in place right now. half of the laws/rules that we have now dont make sense anyways (airport security...please, its the biggest bullshit ever).
