Filmmaker Peter Greenaway declares: cinema = dead

Let's bring back the body again!
budzossays...

Traditional cinema is not dead by any means. People will cherish the passive tell-me-a-story type of film for a long time to come. Go make a lame DJ interactive bullshit multimedia thing if you must. No matter how great my home theatre gets, there will still be movies that I simply must see as soon as they are released. Plus the local theatre they just built has all digital screens and a bunch of VIP adult-only auditoriums with huge leather seats. So long as films maintain a release window where they are exclusively available in theatres, the movie business as we know it will never really die.

rossprudensays...

TV didn't kill radio... TV redefined radio's function. So Greenaway makes some good points, but he leans towards hyperbole. As only Greeenaway can.

Also, this is *nsfw because he uses 1 naughty word. (Sorry!)

neteansays...

if "cinema" means have to sit through any more Peter Greenaway films... hell let it die and give me more Jaws 4 (the second worst film I ever paid to see!)

I paid to watch "The Baby of Macon" 2 hours of my life I'll never get back! (and the worst film I paid to see!)
