District 9 Trailer (Based on the incredible Alive in Joburg)

i cannot wait to see this movie. it's based on 'alive in joburg' a top-notch short film, shot documentary style, which can be watched on the sift here. the film is being produced by peter jackson, apparently on the strength of a.i.j. itself.

yeah, sleeper dealer looks great too.

the documentary style of aij and district 9 just gives me really high hopes. i can't remember an 'invasion' film that's been shot like this. and with peter jackson behind it too. fuck.

if it sucks i will cry.

edit: just thought of cloverfield but that was just handheld, not really documentary.

Ship looks cool... but from what I can see, the aliens do not. They sound pretty unoriginal as well... but I can probably overlook that if the story's decent.

Neil is from South Africa.

Neil and Peter Jackson were brought together for the now canned Halo film that fell apart when Microsoft got all draconian on the contractual matters of their most important Xbox IP.

This looks interesting. Revealing the aliens in the trailer is a let down.

Bloomkamp is a genius. We need more directors like him, who know how to create atmosphere and realism through film. I loved his short, and I'be been waiting for this for a while, and since I LITERALLY got chills at the end...I am not doubting its going t be great.
