Bill Maher: The United States of You Don’t Wanna Know

"C'mon, no cow is that well traveled."

YouTube: In his editorial New Rule, Bill Maher calls out deregulators for shielding corporations at the expense of consumers.

His messages wouldn't be as effective.

Rubbing people the wrong way is the best way to get attention.

Without his abrasive style, he would never have gained his platform/s.

articiansaid:

I wish Maher wasn't so abrasive because he still produces a few of these gems from time to time.

That's what happens when K street gets their grips in you. All are bought. All need $ and succumb to this shit and sell out the American people.

Need to make running office dirt cheep. Or have bright, super rich who don't need to be bought to run.

Buttlesays...

I couldn't watch the whole thing; seems like one of those rants intended to make people stupider. Did he ever mention the meat labeling WTO case that the US lost, which made the new law the only alternative to a trade war?

Lawdeedawsays...

Except that his message isn't effective. John Stewart, that is effective.

Effective at making a small, angry fanbase feel feelings <> creating change by engaging the masses.

Swear everyone on the sift has shit logic.

Define "small fanbase".

You think that providing thought provoking political satire to innumerable crowds of strangers over 35 years as a comedian..

Acquiring and maintaining two relatively popular sociopolitical panel discussion shows for over 20 years..

And creating a documentary entitled Religulous with the express purpose of calling on our society at large to question their own religious convictions..

ISN'T effective or engaging..?

Yet Jon Stewart..

The same Jon Stewart who has explicitly stated that he's doesn't wish to be considered some political figurehead.

And whose Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear - while rather large and somewhat inspiring - was PURPOSEFULLY meant to be neutral..

Not leaning to one viewpoint or another and, thereby, basically useless and ineffectual..

is some sort of generational-change messiah by comparison?

OR! @Lawdeedaw & @ Truckchase..

Do you just not like Bill Maher and think Jon Stewart is "cooler"/funnier..?

Because that definitely what it seems like..

Maher's platform has always been promoting hate of the "other" as he defines it. He's no different than the religious zealots he condemns.

Unfortunately in the US there is an financial incentive and willing (yes, small) audience that will pay money to live in his echo chamber.

If you can't hear what I'm saying maybe it's too loud over there.

Thanks for getting my point @Truckchase

Glad we're on the same page.

Next, just admit that you don't agree with his tactics.

Instead of denying their effectiveness at gaining an engaged following.

If you define "effectiveness" as making money, I'll give you that.

If you define it as progress toward a better government, society, or understanding of others, then I beg to disagree.

Right, I know you differ @Truckchase

The point is.. admit your bias when you're clearly bias

Effective is reaching people.

You don't have a 20 year tv career unless you're reaching an audience.

Just because you don't agree with the audience.. so what.

That's like saying FoxNews isn't effective.

Clearly it is, yet all they do is spread misinformation.

I'm pretty certain you don't even know what you're disagreeing with at this point.

Maybe you want to stop and evaluate your statements and the statements of other before you continue "trying to make a point".

Or not.. whatev.

G'night.
