Amazing Animatronics by John Nolan

These incredible animatronic machines were made by John Nolan. John has worked on films such as Clash of the Titans, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, several of the Harry Potter movies.

The mix of art and engineering in these is sublime

I have tremendous respect for the CGI craft and the talented artists involved but this kind of work is on a totally different level. Watching this video reminds me of the work that ILM did back in the late 70's and early 80's when Phil Tippett was working on Dragonslayer, Empire, and Jedi. John Nolan seems to have an appreciation of the methodology where he thinks.."Yeah...I can animate these claws...but how else am I gonna freak the kids out when they knock on the door trick-or-treating??"
