1/3 of Pakistan underwater, no one knows, no one cares

Maybe the Taliban will help. I urge you to make a donation if you can. We just did.

I found this about a week ago but had 3 unsifted at that time. Your sift reminded me to sift it.

It's obvious they're being punished for supporting terrorists and not believing in our god!

...on another note, when this did happen, I was surprised that not a single news outlet ran the story in my area. Not much I can do (still a broke-ass student with no money and no income), but maybe one day!

I found this in an article about Hilary Clinton leading by example (for US donations only):

Clinton urged people to text the word “SWAT” to the number 50555, and reply “yes” when asked to confirm, in order to make a $10 donation to help the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Canadian Government matches so I made a $500 donation a month or so ago via Oxfam... take that government stooges!

The weirdest part is I'm an atheist so I'm not sure where I get my morals from...

Poor reporting, and I don't think it is a lack of awareness, it is a lack of the local government's abilities or desires to help its own people. People know, and care, but who wants to give money that isn't going to the right people, especially when money is tight for so many people.

Some of these are from a month ago or more.

Floods like that are nothing unusual in Pakistan. If you look at Pakistan history there were several like this one. The only thing that changed is that since the 70s its population has tripled and the vast majority live near the rivers.

When the Haiti quake happened, there were postings on the best ways to give money. Are there similar things about giving money to Pakistan?

Few things. First pakistan doesn't care, second, they've repeatedly refused help(especially from those "evil" jew and christian aid groups). Third, they have a taxation rate of 4% of the total population, and refuse to tax anyone in order to save themselves.

Hey, anyone remember when there was an earthquake in Haiti?

What about way back when Louisiana was getting drenched in oil from an oil spill? Seems like forever ago.

How about that Hurricane whatsitsname that hit them? Wasn't that like 25 years ago or something?

But 9/11 must've happened just last year, right?

It's amazing how quickly everyone forgets something once it's not in the *news anymore.
