The weird virtual reality of Google's Project Tango

serosmeg says...

This guy is awesome. Look what he did with a wii remote back in 2008. Nintendo did NOTHING with it. AR on your tv in 2008? I was really looking forward to playing some first person shooters with that mod on a wii...

Just drop nukes behind you and surf to mars.

Constant 1G acceleration followed by constant 1 G deceleration gets you to Mars in about 50-75 hours, and you never get anywhere near relativistic velocity. It's just a matter of scalability. If you develop an engine that can accelerate a given mass at. 001g, and it's made light enough that most of that mass is payload, you just scale up with an array of 1000 of them and you're at 1G.

Beta was fun! It got old playing the same map. People eventually found annoying advantages like getting an at-st right at the start and stomping/shooting rebels as they spawned. But yes, the sound effects/music alone made the game.

It was fun, very limited. But god damn, the music, the sound effects, people flying through the air when their jump packs malfunction. It's like crack for your childhood memories.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Sugar

serosmeg says...

Just try and consume the WHO recommended sugar intake. About 24 grams per day. One can of Pepsi, 41 grams. Eat processed food and you will get up to 24 by breakfast.

"A new WHO guideline recommends adults and children reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake. A further reduction to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits.

Free sugars refer to monosaccharides (such as glucose, fructose) and disaccharides (such as sucrose or table sugar) added to foods and drinks by the manufacturer, cook or consumer, and sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juices and fruit juice concentrates."

I'd rather throw it in the trash than wear it around my gut. It's a waste in both places.

Dads "increase in size", from finishing off the plates of their kids when they don't eat their dinner. A dad hates to see good food go to waste.

Ultimately, it's the kids fault.
