It's not their shoes that are melting - there's just a layer of tar on the road they're walking on. At 0:15 you can clearly see that the front guy is no longer on the tar and is not leaving any tracks.

Tar easily melts and becomes tacky like you see in the video. I know this from experience and I live in Canada!

Also, you don't necessarily use your bike helmet when you crash. I go over the bars on my mountain bike like the last dummy clip about 3 - 4 times a year. I have only landed on my helmet once in the past 5 years...

It's pretty clear to me the coach was trying to get his team to take note of the game continuing before the shot went up...

Doesn't look to me like the "rocket" made any difference to the swing...
