Sam Harris - On Calling Out Religion, Death

cindercone says...

Brings up a good point. Why exactly is it so important to call a spade a spade? Since there's no proof for God, and also no proof of God's absence, why would nuclear arms control be more important than religious exercise. Since religion has existed for thousands of years, and nuclear arms control has existed for mere decades, society as a whole has no essential attachment to it, and therefore no inclination to expend significant resources into its management. Also, since religion, unlike astrology, exists in an active way, guiding the beliefs, feelings, and actions of most of the world, then any culture would be expected to utilize its resources in defining, over and over again if need be, just how its own developing nuances can and should be viewed through the prism of the scaffolding upon which it is based.
Indeed, it is the religious' moral obligation to argue against what it considers ignorance. In this case, it would be the atheist. The atheist is never thwarted because his own denunciation is based upon the religious' ability to disprove the atheist in the atheist's terms. The religious argues that God exists because I believe he exists. The atheist argues that he isn't satisfied because he doesn't believe that belief as sufficient. His argument is circular, as is the religious'. Circular and parallel and non-intersecting.
So then, why is it a moral and intellectual necessity for Sam Harris to continue an activity which he by definition cannot succeed in? And HE'S commenting about how to expend and prioritize resources. A good example of why he could never ascend to high office.

Seeing Sound Waves - 1130 ft/second @ Obama Inauguration

Like anything else, anybody CAN know it. "Sound Engineers" are the most predictable group to know it professionally. No one's claiming to make absolute statements here. It's a cool video demonstrating a cool concept. I didn't know about delaying remote speakers, and I'm glad to have the chance to see it in practical application.

Little Kid Can't Figure Out How to Kick Ball

cindercone says...

It's sad that people laugh at a video like this. Obviously, what's occurring is what pediatricians call "Orb Mind Control". For years, the medical community has known that orbs have the ability to control people's minds. Even mainstream Hollywood has known about this phenomenon since 1981's animated classic Heavy Metal. "Balls", as children commonly call them, have been known to control the minds of young people for hundreds of years. Just look at high profile cases such as Michael Jordan, who's advanced case of OMC made him come out of retirement and win ANOTHER 3 straight NBA championships in a row. Or look at the Tragic case of Barry Bonds, who engaged in steroid use under OMC, and has lived his life with no conscious knowledge of it.

Yet this video demonstrates a rare sub-type. Because of the aspherical design of the football, the ball is unable to assume complete control of the boy's mind. So, while it's obvious that the ball is attempting to get the child to murder his father, and ingest his fresh, juicy brain, the ball is never able to fully coordinate the movements of the child, and we see the rare physical manifestation of "Orb Mind Control Imperfectus", which has been known to silicone valley game designers, and has been incorporated into mainstream media, through what gamers commonly refer to as a "glitch". Thus the boy's movements perfectly mimic any one of the cheat-accessible glitches that have become commonplace today.

It's a sad case really.
