"Your papers please" - Toronto's pre-G20 Gestapo Week

Out of town cops demand that these guys show some ID if they want to enter the secure zone. Normally this is not permitted in Canada, but our provincial government gave the cops expanded powers for the G20 period in the zone of the fence you see behind these guys, and for 5 metres out - which allowed them to demand ID.

There's one element of "LIES" here - the guys could get away with not showing ID if they were to leave immediately. You could argue the cop was simply letting them stay - but giving them the condition for staying.

Until Friday the 25th most people had no idea that this law was in effect. This was recorded on June 24, when it blew up in the news.

The documenter with the shades is being a bit of a douche to the officer here... but has reason to be upset. In this case, the officer is upholding the law as is his sworn duty and his job, however unjust. The issue should be taken up with those that made that (unjust) law that stripped the rights of citizens. There is so much this past weekend that never should have happened.

I agree...if you are put in this position you have to show that you're doing EVERYTHING you can to be polite and accomidate the police officers. I know it doesn't seem fair in anyway, however when you're trying to convince people of something it's best not to be rude or come off like a dick...or they might be happy when you get the shit tazed out of you.

When you're the nicest guy however no one except the most callous jackass can do anything but see that you were trying sincerely to be peaceful. Ever seen Stephen Fry...act like him in a situation like this, and if your rights are still trampled it won't seem like you instigated anything.

Public Works Protection Act is being used to identify individuals that are recording or reporting. This information can be used later on to confiscate any recoded evidence from the identified people. As we have seen from the other videos, the focus of the police was not the vandals, but the reporters and peaceful protestors.
