shuacsays...And republicans just love Kennedy, so this should resonate well.
Sarcasm off.
videosiftbannedmesays...Well said. It's unfortunate that some had to resort to murdering him because of their fear.
9516says...Sure, print it all in the New York Times, so our enemies can read all about it.
twiddlessays...It is unfortunate that people like to excerpt the parts of speech they like and don't give the whole story. Kennedy may well want to say such words to our current president, and they are good words, but there is lot more to this speech, and what Kennedy was really trying to do was to get the press to voluntarily not print things that the government felt should be kept secret. The excerpt was taken from a speech to The American Newspaper Publishers Association following the botched Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba. The sentences immediately proceeding the clip are:
I thought some people might appreciate some context. Text
kronosposeidonsays...^Thanks for the background, twiddles.
I don't have a problem with our government keeping some secrets. For example, keeping the identity of a covert field agent a secret is probably a good idea. However this administration is run like a freaking star chamber. Cheney refuses to divulge who attended his energy summit. White House aides refuse to testify before Congress. Abu Ghraib is kept hush-hush until a news organization exposes it. Secret prisons are all over the world, and so on. This White House acts like the Kremlin.
And when JFK had someone present evidence at the United Nations, it was REAL evidence.
my15minutessays...^yup. /sigh
and what's almost worse, they're transparently shitty at covering anything up.
gonzales "simply can't recall" a goddamn thing.
cheney is just not a member of the executive, when it suits his purpose.
bush is confronted with his approval of waterboarding,
by no less a journalistic giant than... Matt Lauer??
if you're going to be evil, at least be evil geniuses please??
this is pathetic.
10643says...There was a time when the President could ask the press to hold off on a story because of security reasons and they would comply. There was a trust between the President and Press. Today its all about ratings and the big scoop because that all translates to $$$. There's no trust and I don't feel that the press are willing to treat a story as confidential and willing to hold if they know they have a scoop.
Just my opinion.
cheesemoosays...^ I don't think they have any respect for the white house anymore, and I don't blame them.
quantumushroomsays...Kennedy was for lower taxes and strong national defense. In other words, he'd be a Republican today.
Bush is "dumb"? You libs ran your best and brightest and lost to him TWICE. hahahaha.
karaidlsays...Kerry sure as hell isn't our "best."
And we didn't lose the first time.
NordlichReitersays...Need I say any more? Below is the main reason our country is in the state that its in. Because no one; republican or democrat, conservative or liberal, will stand up to a faulty president.

EndAllsays...^ It's like sports.
My team is better! We beat you 2 games in a row!
Oh yeah, well we'll be back to beat you guys in the next one! We got a skilled new orator!
And yet, both teams are sponsored by the same corporations and influential elites.
It is a show, through and through, designed to make you feel a part of it.
