Web of Deceit : Saddam Hussein

Made for European television this film was never broadcast in North America.

Barry Lando and Michel Despratx's documentary

The horrifying truth is the extent to which we in the west have been complicit. Check out Lando's new book "Web of Deceit" and his blog at http://barrylando.com/

Good post. Strange there is no mention here of the Iran-Contra affair occurring at the exact same time (unless I missed it somehow).

To refresh your memory--while all the collusion documented here was happening with Saddam, the very same Reagan administration simultaneously and secretly sold weapons to Iraq's (and supposedly our own) mortal enemies, the Iranians, so that the administration could raise off-the-books cash to smuggle to right-wing terrorists in Nicaragua--funding which the senate had already declared illegal.

And for whose benefit? In addition to their cocaine smuggling operations (well known to the "just say no" administration), the Contras that Reagan broke the law to assist were also a nasty bunch of war criminals and terrorists. The Sandinista government alleged in their November 1984 report that since 1981 the Contras had assassinated 910 state officials; attacked nearly 100 civilian communities; caused the displacement of over 150,000 people from their homes and farms; damaged or destroyed bridges, port facilities, granaries, water and oil deposits, electrical power stations, telephone lines, saw mills, health centers, schools and dams. But, hey, at least they weren't communists.

So take your pick, hypocrisy, felony or treason, and remind me again why Reagan was such a great president?

look for all the 8 parts

about denial :
-Was it worth it ?
-I believe it is worth having the sanction on because in the end in a strange way they may have help to produce the mindset that get rid of the weapons of mass destruction that we can't find now.

This video is focused on Iraq and Saddam, but what it really shows is that this intervention in the middle east is all about Iran and ultimately oil. The hard truth is that oil is a limited natural resource, and the last ideology / people / nations in control of oil are going to rule the planet. Do you really want to be ruled by a Saddam or a bin Laden or an Ahmadinejad? This is the real question, and I am afraid that the opposite of your answer to that is your answer to "should we be bucking for position in the middle east".

So, one has to look at where we are today when it comes to Iran. When I was growing up, a nuclear-armed Russia was at a standoff with us for many years, never having a real desire to attack us. What would it be like to be up against a nuclear armed Iran? Or "terrorists" that have been armed by Iran? Do you want to find out? I sure as hell don't.

Ah, I see. Might makes right. God is on our side. They're all out to kill us.

"Bucking for position in the middle east".

Gunboat diplomacy at its most inane.

I guess the thought of, you know, doing business with them is considered passé.

Iran is about as big a threat to the US as a lil' kid is towards a wrestler. Please stop panicking

Iran's economy is oil based on export, they can't refine any of their own crude so rely on imports from other nations. They are actually rationing fuel right now. Their army is under manned, under trained, and hasn't fought a war since the 1980s which they lost. Their air force is formed of out Phantoms F-4s from the Vietnam era, their navy if you can call it that is non-existent, mainly light boats. More importantly the government is under heavy criticism by the populace.

They are going nuclear because thats the only way to get noticed in today's world. And look it's working out. The US/UK government are painting them out in the same way Iraq was painted... 'Don't let the smoking gun be a mushroom cloud'
