Van Doos patrol an Afghan village

ca. 5 mins. Members of the renowned French-Canadian unit, the Van Doos*, go on foot patrol in an Afghan village. One of my buddies was definitely part of this. (*=from a rough English pronunciation of "vingt-deux", from the proper unit designation Royal 22e RĂ©giment)

I went to school with a couple guys who went over there. I knew and talked regularly to all three of them, one died, Cole Bartsch . the other two I have seen at the bar.

I think its a mistake we are there and should fix our own problems before we go and try and patrol the world.

A quaint video which reiterates the beauty of a much-beleaguered nation. To bad about their horrible government and the various foreign occupying forces. These boys should not be there defending american military-industrial interests as they are.

Few realize that Afghanistan is near a paradise, very beautiful country. I remember travel author Bruce Chatwin raving about it. I hope they stumble into some semblance of peace - at least long enough so I can visit there before I get too old because I really want to.

3/4 of the beauty of this piece is the fact that no music is being rammed down your throat. Makes you feel like you're there and I wish more vid makers didn't feel the need to "enhance", (read: "Mask"), their work with so much music.

Also, at 2:55 isn't that a girl soldier?

I can imagine that Afghanistan is very beautiful. Some of my friends said they've seen beauty there with their own eyes, having gone over and come back.

The woman at 2:55 looks like a medic to me, although that's partly a hunch based on her backpack. 2:26 / 3:57's a woman too and so does 1:08 appear to be (hair's in a bun, looks like). Women in the Canadian Forces can be in any trade, including the combat arms, and I have a few women friends who've done tours there, most of them as infantry, i.e., foot soldiers.
