Unemployment Benefits Keep People From Looking For Jobs?

This guy has no fucking clue what he's talking about.
Stormsingersays...

Oh snap! He's onto me...that $345 a week is exactly what's keeping me from finding my $90-100K job, because I -like- worrying about paying the bills every month.

And why isn't that asshole in prison yet, anyway?

GeeSussFreeKsays...

Ohhh good thing I don't get any unemployment at all yet lost 10% of my income to state and federal unemployment tax. Enjoy my tax money storm, I am sure I didn't need it as much as you did.../grumble grumble/

Stormsingersays...

How very decent of you. Or did you miss the fact that I've been paying into that fund for 35 fucking years and this is the first time I've ever received a penny?

I'm absolutely sure I haven't seen a penny of -your- taxes anyway, considering unemployment tax rate is more like 3% here. It's a 6% max rate, depending on how many claims are made against a particular employer, and my employers (all two in the last 25 years) have generally had very low turnover rates.

But yeah, you go ahead and piss and moan... Nice to see how much conservatives actually care about people.

Nice to know that the system is so broken that only certain people get what they pay for in their time of need. And FYI, I am not conservative.

Edit: Ok you are a have been victimized by my misplaced rage. You have nothing to do with the system being complete ship, and for that I am sorry. I am mad that my money has been essentially stolen from me. Unemployment is a joke, everyone pays it, only very few people can ever reap it. It is a complete load of horse apples.

Understood, and accepted. I find I have a much greater understanding of rage and anger than I did even two years ago. As you may have noticed from my own tendency to spout off. Sad to say, tough times make us all short-tempered.

Thanks for helping me recover my own balance, man. My hat's off to you.

before anyone slams me for incorrect information, I've only done minimal research on this however:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Unemployment_Tax_Act
...states that unemployment compensation is paid for via taxed EMPLOYERS not employees. I know for a fact that it's like this in Colorado, other states may vary, but tbh I've never seen my paystub reflect an unemployment tax that I've ever had to pay into.

No, you're right. There are generally two or three reasons people might refer to paying unemployment taxes. One, they could be ignorant of how it actually works. Two, they could be working under the assumption that if the taxes weren't collected, their pay could/would be that much higher. Or three, IIRC, they could be self-employed.

I have always tended to operate under assumption #2 myself...although some of the abusive pay-scales I've seen over the last year make me question that assumption. I find it hard to believe that the market value for a highly technical position has dropped 25-30% since the crash, but that's what I'm seeing offered by many staffing companies. -Somebody- is making a killing here. I guess someone as cynical as I shouldn't be surprised by this.
