US student pays $14,309 tuition in $1 bills

dgandhisays...

I really don't get the point of denomination abuse.

Is our society so innumerate that they need to see a stack of bills to understand how much $14K is?

If everybody did this, then it would cost the schools money, and the tuitions would have to go up to cover it, but one guy doing it is completely irrelevant.

$14k for a semester is the OUT OF STATE tuition? he would have paid just about as much for in state back at a decent UC (UCSD, UCSB, UCLA, UCB, etc).

not sure what he's complaining about, seems like a helluva deal. it's not even his money.

14k$ for 1 semester?
Let me check germany: 500€ for 1 semester... hmm, let me check what I have to pay since I got siblings: 0€ for 1 semester
Haha, way to go capitalist idiots!

Hell... even here in Portugal, a whole year of college is less than €1000, and if you're poor, you can get a scholarship and pay almost half of that.

So yeah... I gotta agree with TheGenk on this one.

@TheGenk & @EMPIRE

Are those prices for basic community/junior/2-year colleges?

Because I only pay about 1300 USD for a 12 credit semester at my local 2 year.
Which is probably a little less than 1000 EUR.

How much is the cost of a 4 year University? Or post graduate studies like Masters and Doctorates?

But yeah, Uhmerika sucks.. I hate it. I need to change it.

@GenjiKilpatrick:
There nothing like basic community/junior/2-year colleges in germany.
The system here consists of Universities and Hochschulen (college you might say), which started out very different from each other but are now very similar. The only big difference is that university is very theoretical and college is more practical.

Both have 3 year (Bachelor) and 2 year (Master) degrees. (Well, univerity has some longer special ones like medicine) and the price is the same for all.

You should have seen the uproar when the 500€/semester tuition was introduced a few years back.

I make TheGenks' info mine. Different country, but almost the same system.

Which is pretty cool in europe, since that allows you to practically study wherever you want*.
I can (and am encouraged to) study 1 semester in the UK for example. Or you can start your studies in germany, do a few semester in france and finish it in ireland.
