True Norwegian Black Metal

5 parts.

"We went to Norway to interview Gaahl, lead singer of the band Gorgoroth. Gaahl really believes in this whole ideology behind what he's doing—he's not just some rockstar fronting a band. The thing with Black Metal is, in Norway, everybody is exactly the same. There's nothing to rebel against, because everybody's really well off. It's one of the richest countries in Europe. There is no lower class, it's like middle-class white kids everywhere—no one has anything to complain about. And he's this sort of eccentric figure amidst this sea of contentment and sameness. The way I see it is, in America you have guys like 50 Cent who are supposed to be the "villain." Kids like him cause they're parents hate him, and that's basically what Gaahl is. He's their musical villain so to speak. But there's a lot of different sides to the scene.

This is awesome. Not enough info in the video though. These guys have done some truly crazy shit.

Excerpt from the wikipedia Black Metal Article:

Claims that Aarseth took pieces of Dead's brains and made a stew out of them eventually surfaced, as well as claims that the members of the band made a necklace from the bone fragments of their friend's skull. The former claim was later declared false (although admittedly, he planned to) by the band, although the latter turned out to be true. They then proceeded to give pieces of the necklace to different bands they deemed "worthy".

Well, these videos are meant to be more about Gaahl, then black metal in general. They start out with a quick introduction to the genre, meant mostly for people who know nothing about it.

Oh I've seen this series. Absolutely phenomenal. I can't even believe the ending of that last part, I'm staring into flame and stuff to be sure the tape is still rolling...

If you like Metal and you know your Nietzsche...

I used to like heavy metal, then I turned 14.

So funny to me that it's still around when the entire style is based on the distortion pedal. One simple trick in the guitar's arsenal and they're nothing without it. It should have taken a bow like Reggae and steel drums did in the 90's because it all sounds the same now.
