(vimeo) While a sophomore in high school, Riley Ennis used a protein from horseshoe crabs to train the immune system of an octopus to detect and destroy cancerous cells. This innocent first experiment has had rippling effects in the world of cancer research.

I like the horseshoe crab. It's the closest living relative to the trilobites, but according to Richard Fortey, the Trilobite expert, they're not good eating.
