The Escapist visit Epic, interviews Cliff Bleszinski

The Escapist, home of Yahtzee's ubiquitous Zero Punctuation Reviews, does other things too.

Here, they visit the studios of game studio Epic, interviewing lead game guru Cliff Bleszinski on doing a game on other people's intellectual property (never!), the art of gaming versus cinema (GTA IV is like a 36-hour Scorcese film), and other insights into game development.

Epic designed the Unreal engine, used in Gears of War and Bioshock, and of course, Unreal.

Cute little viral promo for another Escapist series at the end.

Whatever they say it's going to be simply more muscle-bound nonsense. I liked some of the gameplay in Gears but it felt like you were controlling an oil tanker when you got up close with an opponent. Definitely won't be buying the sequel.
There's so much that can be done with storytelling in games but it simply isn't happening yet. Right now Mirrors Edge looks like something new in the world of first-person games and there's a forthcoming PS3 game that has multiple outcomes within a strongly driven narrative though I can't remember the name.
