i can't believe they actually made this film... the whole tone of the movie is just creepy.

I saw this on in the queue before, and I still don't have high hopes for it. I think it was made as an educational tool for social workers and therapists. As creepy as is seems, it is still a necessity to educate the mentally challenged about their bodies.

Familiar, but interesting. The subject is a bit creepy ("trainables" has a totalitarian ring to it), but necessary to talk about.

I've never heard the term 'trainables' before... I wonder where that comes from.

the term 'trainables' refers to the level of mental retardation that was used many, many years ago before we, as a society, became educated on the subject. someone with moderate retardation (IQ 35 – 55) used to be called "Trainable Mentally Retarded" because they only required moderate supervision and assistance.

i actually used to work at an institution (built in the 1930's) that was called southbury training school.

Till i'd worked out that they were talking about handicapped people, it did just seem a little elementary (hence the creepy sensation, I spose). Once that was out of the way, I found it pretty tasteful and mature with its message.

The message that teachers should not try to project moral rules about sex on the student is something I think applies across the board. I refer squarly to the 'Abstinence' debauchary that's going on in the US today.
