Terrifying Football Stadium Fire

Coverage from CNN Headline News of the Bradford City stadium fire (May 11, 1985). It is believed the fire started when a spectator dropped either a match or cigarette, which fell through holes in the stand to rubbish which had accumulated below. It spread like a flash as can be seen in this video. Only the first 1:30 are of interest, after that it just repeats.

Yikes, it doesn't seem like so many people got caught in it, but those that died were trying to exit the rear of the grandstands and ran into locked gates in many cases.

So I dont get what happened with the dude walking on fire. Looks like the camera man saw something, by the time he zoomed in, people around the burning man seemed to be backing away and watching - and then suddenly snapped into action.

I wonder if his clothes where just so hot they "reached flashpoint" - or maybe he was hit with something like burning plastic. Whatever happened it looks like he, and the others around him were confused by the heat and smoke.

Regardless it looked like his jacket was made from that sweet 80s polyester all right
