Super Mario Brothers on Violin

Guy replaces the sounds (sound effects too!) to Super Mario Brothers with playing on a violin
Sarzysays...

It's a slightly different angle and a slightly different performance, but this is so similar I don't see any way you could argue that this isn't a dupe. Sorry Vexus.

I thought we'd decided that different camera angles are NOT dupes. See:

http://videosift.com/poll/What-is-a-dupe

and

http://videosift.com/video/Seattle-cop-kills-nonthreatining-pedestrian#comment-1213045 (for Sift precedents)

Also, if its a different performance doesn't that automatically make it not a dupe? Otherwise we'd have to dupe every cover song and concert performance on the Sift.

I think we decided that different camera angles are not always dupes. That doesn't mean they're never dupes, it means we have to use our judgment on a case-to-case basis.

Seriously, did you watch both videos in this case? The angle is only marginally different, and the music itself is so similar that the only way you can tell that it's actually a different performance is if you watch them side-by-side. This isn't the same as a cover song or a live performance. Seriously, I don't think you've actually watched both videos. Watch them both and then tell me you don't think this is a dupe.

They're definitely not the same performance.... the TV is turned differently, and there's a little brown box in the corner of the TV in your link. I also noticed in the one I posted, Mario runs into a goomba near the beginning, which didn't happen in the other video, and he dies on the second world in the other video instead of getting to the warp pipe. I mean I'm fine if it's actually a dupe, and obviously it's not up to me, but I think they are the same guy doing different performances.

Despite your incredulity, I did indeed watch both and no I don't think they're dupes.

Now my question for you: did you look at the precedents (that I took a great deal of time to compile)? Because those are way more similar (in many cases exactly the same in both audio and video--just different camera angle) than these two.

@Sarzy

In fact, I'm going to go even further and ask if YOU actually watched both videos... this one adds over a minute of new footage and music including him playing on the water stage which isn't in the other one.

In short:

1) Different performance (filmed at a different time/camera angle)
2) Different music
3) Different camera angle
4) Different length of time of vid

= NOT A DUPE!

BoneRemakesays...

In my opinion,No, not Dupe, but then again to me this one has no place here because of the other one.

Its a line that is being toed, its pretty much the same content on all levels(hah) but there are discernible differences negating what one would call a dupe over.

Kill it and move forward, thats my motto.

In spite of the fact that it adds a minute of new music that's not in the other one!?! That's being really liberal with the dupe definition, I think.

Sarzysays...

Meh, still feels like a dupe to me, despite the extra level. If anything the original video should have its embed replaced with this one, because from an organizational standpoint, why does the sift need both of these videos? But I guess I can see the argument being made in favour of this not being a dupe, and in that case it's probably better to err on the side of not killing someone's video.
