Erm, isn't this created using Processing? Which creates realtime applications... It's hard to tell exactly because the website assumes an awful lot of pre-existing knowledge about what they're on about. But I just downloaded Processing and all the examples that come with it are realtime.
I don't see anything in this that couldn't be done realtime.
