'Sheds with Beds' - London's modern day Slums

Note: The last 10 seconds of the original report are missing from the youtube clip.

The last sentances are: "... thousands of illegal immigrants have had enough, and are applying for voluntary deportation. But getting home isn't always that easy. Chris Rogers, BBC News, West London."

Here is the BBC original from 27 February 2012: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-17185294

Youtube description:

A series of modern day British slums have been described as "sheds with beds".

The illegal structures, some dangerous and cramped, are offered by landlords - often to Britain's illegal immigrants.

Many occupants send money back to their families in India, paying thousands of pounds to traffickers. But the economic downturn means work has dried up.

Isn't this what Mitt Romney wants? He was going on about voluntary deportation as the solution to the US's illegal immigration problem. Wonder if he realizes that this is how bad you have to make someone's life before they "voluntarily" give up their dreams and hopes of a better life. How evil do you have to be to think that organizing your society in way which condemns hundreds of thousands of people to grinding misery is a good idea?

So when it comes to the US poor, a fridge, microwave, television are good enough reasons to say they aren't so poor. The video shows those items in those sheds with beds, so by US poor standards....they are living the high life. If you listen to the news and politicians at least.

This is the reality of population movement to first world countries.

People abandon developing nations for a meager existence elsewhere. Hundreds of millions have absolutely no hope for their own countries and simply dream of leaving it... what are the hopes for the rest of the world if we allow this to continue?

'Allow' infers some sort of control..western imperial (or post-imperial) powers have as much choice about people following the wealth they extracted as a sandcastle does about the tide coming in.
