choggiesays...People will always torture each other, in one way or another-the worst form creates more of the same ilk. Oh yeah, count on folks to lie as well. The rules of "war" have always been, follow the leader, so...kill,torture,maim,disfigure,starve,rape,etc., such are the accepted terms and conditions when you pick up a gun nowadays for yer go in the service of that machine.Sucks huh? Used t'be about killin nazis.

Branding Rite Laid to Yale Fraternity
Special to the New York Times
New Haven, Nov. 7 - A Yale fraternity accused by the student newspaper of burning its initiates with a brand will have its fate decided Friday by student fraternity leaders.
The fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon, could face the temporary closure of its house and a $1,000 fine resulting from alleged violations of rules previously passed by the Interfraternity Council, which consists of Yale's five fraternity presidents.
The charges against Delta Kappa Epsilon were made last Friday in a Yale Daily News article that accused campus fraternities of carrying on "sadistic and obscene" initiation procedures.
The charge that has caused the most controversy on the Yale campus is that Delta Kappa Epsilon applied on "hot branding iron" to the small of the back of its 40 new members in the shape of the Greek letter Delta, approximately a half inch wide, appeared with the article.
A former president of Delta that [sic] the branding is done with a hot coathanger. But the former president, George Bush, a Yale senior, said that the resulting wound is "only a cigarette burn."
Farhad2000says...I think he gets cut off to early and it makes him sound nutty because he didn't finish his arguement.
therealblankmansays...farhad, if you want to read more, the article cited above is quite good. As for Shays sounding nuts, well, he doesn't really need any help with that.
joedirtsays...Hey Shays, you asshole, why don't you check your own voting record! Remember that time you voted to modify our obligations under Geneva Convention.
How about the amendments to your turd of a bill that you voted against.
That last amendment was submitted because your were saying that the US no longer follow Geneva Convention as applies to torture and rape. Well guess what asshole, now our soldiers no longer are afforded Geneva security, and you redefined torture and rape to ALLOW anything short of anal and vagina penetration.
So, yeah, NOW you are right, Abu Ghraib was NOT torture by your new asshole definition of it.
k8_fansays...As the CIA, FBI and the various US military intelligence services have discovered and have known for years - torture does not work. The person being tortured will say whatever the torturer wants them to say. It's only "useful" if you're not really interested in getting actual answers and have no real interest in the truth.
Did the Salem witch trials actually find any witches? As repulsive as the thought might be to some, the best way to get information out of bad people is with compassion and empathy. All torture produces is more terrorists. When I read of US employees anally raping a young man in front of his mother (that video is in the collection that members of Congress have seen, but cannot be shown to the public because it is child porn), I was literally sick to my stomach. The only possible outcome is for that young man (assuming he survived Abu Garib) is to become a suicide bomber. In his mind, that is the only way for him to regain his manhood.
joedirtsays...I read this great piece of satire to counter Shays claims that it was "only a sex ring". Warning, like most things associated with modern Republicans, it is unfathomably disturbing.
theo47says...It's not torture, it's extreme tickling.
zeth_rbsays...Geneva Convention is toilet paper.
quantumushroomsays...Geneva covers the treatment of recognized enemy combatants in other nations' armed forces, not terrorist rogues captured on the battlefield.
Abu Ghraib was not My Lai just because liberals wish it was, and terrorists do not have any American legal rights, though liberals--including 9 incompetent Supreme Court justices--wish they did.
sometimessays...I guess what Jame "Buffalo Bill" Gumb did to Catherine Martin in "Silence of the lambs" isn't torture either, just sex.
Hexsays...quantumushroom,
Now read the Universal decleration of human rights, now try to wiggle yourself out of that one.
