conansays...Why is it ok if a guy worth multi millions makes fun of "them" who are "up there". He's one of the 1% himself.

It's called pretending like you're down with the rest and can actually identify with your audience so you don't lose your job.
Aniatariosays...Even if Bill is one of "them" he's still obviously in favor of having his taxes increased. He's stated this countless times.
nanrodBill Maher is not donating significant sums of money to politicians in order to influence them to rig the game in his favor. That is what the OWS reference to the 1% is really all about. How the very very rich have hijacked the political process to protect themselves from the great unwashed and to rig the economic, political and taxation systems to suit their own very specific agenda.

Bill Maher and other entertainers didn't scheme their way to where they are. some entertainers might have slept their way to higher income, but none of them sold bundled mortgages back to the public, fucked your savings account, outsourced your job, or raised your interest rates to 30%

He's not one of the 1%. The 99% have no problem with people being rich and successful, they have a problem with many of the rich and successful having too much influence in politics.
If Bill Maher starts using his money to force through legislation giving tax breaks to comedians, then he'll be part of the 1%.
