Rachel Maddow: Palin Will Not Cooperate With Investigation

This just in: Sarah Palin will not co-operate with the Troopergate investigation. Rachel Maddow breaks the news, and speaks with Walt Monegan himself regarding the issue of his firing.

Ouch, I had no idea about this, and a little bit of googling turned up more than I expected. Wasn't Palin generally acclaimed for fighting corruption? This seems a bit ironic (or hypocritical, depending on how strong you want to word it).

So basically any criticism of her is partisan and therefore she doesn't have to cooperate? I mean, if she's innocent, what does she have to fear?

What does this woman have to do for people to realize she is a nutjob? I swear she could support the KKK and the republicans would explain it away...

What scares me about her, is that if we elect grand-dad the odds of getting her as our president at some point are just so high. And they are keeping her under wraps SO much...

Ironically... the commision who originally voted unanimously to start this investigation was 8 republicans and 4 democrates... and yet somehow it's still 'tainted'.

It's really scary stuff, to think that this person could end up running the country.

John McCain's grandfather died at the age of 61. His father died at 70.

Both died of heart failure.

I wasn't aware of either of those statments Voumptuous but it's very much my concern. Assuming that is correct... and adding four bouts with skin cancer... this is truly one of the least talked about... and most distressing issues of this election.

They are hiding her from us, and that should set off a lot of alarms among the GOP loyalists.

Bush has run the most secretive government in our lifetime, if not in the history of our nation, and McCain/Palin are demonstrating that they are more than willling to operate the same way.

I love it when the Truth makes an appearance.

This is the typical 'lie about it, then refuse to cooperate, then become belligerent' tactic that Bush uses all the time.
- Remember the claims about WMD's?
- Remember Scooter Libby "not remembering"

And Palin's not even elected yet!

I have been appalled by Palin's selection since the beginning, due to her inexperience. I have read just about everything I can get my hands on about her.

The Republicans go on about how she has more executive experience than McCain, Obama, Biden, since she actually ran two entities -- Wasilla and the state of Alaska.

What they don't say is what KIND of administrator she was. She fires without following any basic standards of human resource techniques. Yes, she can fire at will. The question is -- SHOULD she fire at will or should she document the shortcomings of her employees and if they don't improve, then fire? She just fires. She is the world's worst employer in terms of treating the people who report to her with any modicum of respect.

What climate of fear now exists in Alaska in terms of anyone criticizing her? They may lose their jobs. That isn't an irrational fear, it is based on her track record. She did it in Wasilla, she did at the state level.

She also has hired close friends into high paying jobs, making much more than they ever did in the private sector. Aren't government jobs supposed to pay less than the private sector? Doesn't this imply they don't have the skills to do the job they were hired for?

What does all this say about how she would run her administration should she become president? What does this say about her ability to deal with heads of states in countries smaller than ours -- which is about all of them, really.

I think she probably has been a good governor for Alaska, with her Wild West ways. It is a small state population-wise. It is oil rich. It is isolated from the rest of the country -- she doesn't even have to get along with other states in the union, the state is so isolated. The government itself is small up there. Her rootin' tootin' bulldozer, bully style can work to ram things through.

These characteristics are horrible in the Leader of the Free World.

She will be more of Bush II -- waving the flag and incapable of working with our traditional allies.

The isolationists may be happy with her -- but in this increasingly "flat" world, it is no longer possible to be isolated on this planet.

What horrifies me the most is that these very characteristics that make her unfit for the job are the very things that the Republican base loves. "Bring it on" says President Bush, and they cheer.

We're in trouble, folks.

Oh Gov. Palin, such a heart breaker.

The gentleman does make an interesting point about her obviously knowing that directly asking that the trooper be fired would be illegal, so she did everything she could to imply forcefully that the trooper be fired, eventually just firing the troopers boss for 'job performance issues' instead.

No matter how horrible McCain and Palin seem... do no underestimate the stupidity of the core US electorate. They are fully capable of putting yet another pair of idiots into office.

Three strikes and the nation is out. If they get elected, you'd better kiss the US you knew and loved 8+ years ago goodbye.

Sorry E_Nygma. I rather pride myself on my English skills. I'll have to head to a dictionary. Doesn't feel like such a sin to me, but then that's why you are frustrated and I am not.

^not if you are invoking the 5th amendment--why would she help an investigator who is trying to prove her guilty.

Well, she originally said she would, but that was when she was Governor Palin, not Vice Presidential Candidate Palin.

...and technically we're talking about the 4th Amendment. Though she's refusing to comply with subpoenas, and 4th Amendment rights go out the window at that point.

Not to be sour or anything but I kissed the US I loved goodbye when Bill Clinton left office. And they tried to impeach him over a BJ! hah! How bad we had it.. and we didnt even know. /sarcasm

Januarisays...

Thats fine... and clearly your correct... but lets keep in mind she fully supported this investigation publicly and spoke of having the opportunity to vindicate herself. She can't have it both ways... Sure it's her right... but it also makes her look very very guilty...

They just don't want to give more ammo then they already have. I am strongly against McCain/Palin, but she has every right to do what she did.
