CirSamsays...He seemed like a real great guy cheRi..
PlayhousePalssays...I know a story [or two]. While in high school, my sister was in the All City Marching Band. She and a couple of friends slipped away for a pre-parade smoke in an alley only to find JP doing the same thing. He swore them to secrecy. It was one of the highlights of her youth =oD
Sagemindsays...Even up here in Canada, I used to watch the JP Patches Show every morning before school. My mom would head off to work and instead of me heading out to school, I would flip on the TV for a half-hour to watch JP and then off to school. It was often the reason I was late. I don't think my mom or sister even knew I'd stay and watch the show.
Sad to see him go.
brycewi19says...Count me as someone who also watched him growing up.
This greatly saddens me.
The Seattle community has lost a treasure.
Tolwynsays...I too am a patches pal living in Central WA. I emailed Chris back in 2001 or 2002. Still have the email. He told me about his book, which I promptly purchased. I miss him very much and met him as a child on more than 2 occasions. And the Count! Anyone remember the Count?
Yogisays...Just moved to Seattle, I feel like I missed out on something.
Trancecoachsays...wow, i just got choked up. never heard of him before this.

He really was a huge Seattle icon since the 1950's. You should go and check out his statue located in Fremont [and don't forget the Fremont Troll under the Aurora Bridge if you do].
Each channel had their own kid's show. KOMO had Captain Puget [he was a bit dry for my taste]. KING had Stan Boreson who played the accordion and had pets [basset hounds Slo-Mo and No-Mo]. KSTW had Brakeman Bill who had sidekick named Crazy Donkey. It was fun growing up here. =o)

My favorite characters were Ketchikan the Animal Man and Miss Smith. =o)

I loved that the show was for kids, but was full of adult innuendo. I think there are a good number of YT videos from the show over the years.
