Privateer 2 Intro Pt1, or Clive Owen before he was famous

This was how I was introduced to Clive Owen. I still think he's fantastic to watch in movies, Children of Men being a fine example.

Privateer 2 was a game released from Origin Systems in 1996 and fits into the Wing Commander universe. While it was a space trading and fighting game it also contained story elements as told via video sequences which starred other well known actors on top of Clive. Christopher Walken, John Hurt, Jurgen Prochnow, David Warner, Amanda Pays, Mathilda May, David McCallum and Brian Blessed all made appearances.

I've looked around for a few retro reviews of this game and they all seem to be pretty scathing. Funny, because I remember loving the game at the time.

As I remember the reviews were scathing because the requirements were pretty high and it wasn't exactly Elite done in better graphics.

Well, yeah, they kinda touted it as being Elite, when it wasn't really that open, but the reviews I was referring to are recent ones, so no system requirements come into it these days.

The privateer series was a blast. While not Elite by any means it was uniquely its own. I think I still have Privateer I stowed away. Not sure about Privateer II though. Probably not worth loading up, I'd probably be sorely disappointed these days

The system requirements weren't high, it was a DOS game lol. Why a software company would code a major release title for DOS after win95 was released is beyond me. It received poor ratings because of dated technology and how buggy the game was occasionally. I remember playing this game back in my early teens, it was pretty memorable I enjoyed it despite it's flaws.

Oh I think they released a gold version of the game later that ran under windows.
