President Ahmadinejad on news magazine 60 Minutes

I don't really understand journalism: What does a leader of a country the size of Iran (70 million people) have to put up with?

To interview Ahmadinejad, CBS journalist Scott Pelley uses a such a condescending tone, I wouldn't even speak to a telemarketer in such a fashion.

Ahmadinejad doesn't support human rights anywhere near like that which we are guaranteed in the free world and Bush is not a very religious man as Pelley claims with such great admiration. It's all political propaganda.

I don't think he practices love of his fellow man, while saying Israel should be wiped off the face of the map or supporting a holocaust deniers conference.

But who knows, maybe I don't understand the subtleties of hypocrisy.

He's quite easy to figure out- He has said himself, that the return of the Shiite messiah, the Mahdi, is not far away, and Muslims must prepare for it.

Fucking Insane.

....and Saddam was interviewed by Rather, another schlock-spinner's wonderfest of bilge.

There is a lot of confusion about whether or not Ahmadinejad said that Israel should be wiped of the map. Many say it is a mistranslation. There's a big wiki article on the whole issue.

Also I'd like to point out that Ahmadinejad is not really a dictator, he was elected by 62% of the voters, with a turnout of 60% of eligible voters. Better than Bush I'd say.

Not saying I'm supporting the guy. Just look at the state of human rights in his country. But a bad state of human rights is true for many countries and that shouldn't disqualify them of having a respectful dialogue with the leaders of said country. Just look at the human rights in Saudi Arabia, they have Sharia law, and are pretty much in bed with Bush.

Cyberbeast - while the phrase "must be wiped from the pages of history" can conceivably be translated to not mean a call to destruction, it was not his only utterance on that subject - e.g. "Very Soon, Israel Will Be Purged From the Center of the Islamic World – and This is attainable' -

And marinara - your average telemarketer is just someone doing his job, not a state leader trying to destroy his country...

What I think he said was that the Zionist entity would be wiped away, not meaning killed, but ended. He has said that he is for a referendum in Palestine/Israel where every inhabitant including current refugees, be it Jew, Muslim or Christian gets a vote about a government of unity. This might be a very naive view but it is not a view that all Jews should be killed.
I just submitted a video with a more nuanced view on the Ahmadinejad affair by "The Real News Network", I think the issue deserved more in depth commentary instead of this useless propaganda and spin. (sorry for the self plug)

Structuresays...

As president of Iran, Ahmadinejad does not have control over military forces and can't declare war. Unfortunately these powers are given to the current Supreme Nutjob of Iran: Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The president of Iran hates the government of Israel and views it as a corrupt regime that will collapse in on itself on its own. This is according to the actual translation of what he said. When Americans wanted Saddam's regime gone they didn't want to exterminate all Iraqis. The Ayatollah, however, wants the people of Israel wiped off the map. And plenty of Iranians running the newspapers side with the Ayatollah so they print their fanatic views instead of the president's views that match the U.N.'s resolutions against Israel.

I have a feeling that a war with Iran would be a disaster. It'd be best if everyone thoroughly investigates the reasons for war with Iran.
