Pregnant in America examines the betrayal of humanity's greatest gift--birth--by the greed of U.S. corporations. Hospitals, insurance companies and other members of the healthcare industry have all pushed aside the best care of our infants and mothers to play the power game of raking in huge profits.

His wife pregnant, first-time filmmaker Steve Buonaugurio sets out to create a film that will expose the underside of the U.S. childbirth industry and help end its neglectful exploitation of pregnancy and birth.

Interesting. I remember reading some reports that women were being given the choice of Caesarians or were having them forced on them when really that procedure should be carried out in extreme circumstances when the baby or mother is in danger.

I wonder if this film goes into the issue of male circumcision, as it seems that is a procedure carried out mostly because it is a relatively quick and easy operation for the money the doctor makes by performing it.

There is a small but sure resurgence into natural births, which made this mama very happy. I live where I have the opportunity and the support to choose to birth at home (as well as two low-risk pregnancies). If you are pregnant check out these sites, to see the other end of the spectrum. It doesn't have to be the hospital way.
