I thought this was a fan-made music video at first (as I've never seen it) - but it's too well synchronised to the track and would cost far too much for a fan to produce (some of the footage directly relates to the lyrics). Even by Portishead's standard of astounding music videos - this is incredible...

By the way: I have no idea what the last minute is all about (it doesn't load and the vids already over by then...I guess it's a fault in the video posted/FLV file).

i'm almost certain that this is what it is.. i recognise almost all of the video segments from a documentary on english TV (can't remember air dates etc.) on string theory (and more).. it was basically a documentary on all sorts of things as pertaining to string theory - gravity with string theory, parallel universes with string theory, worm holes with string theory - with commentary from leading physicists..

eg. the loaf of bread with the different universes was directly from the segment about parallel universes, with each slice representing a universe with its own rules and such.. and the jagged circular things were the strings..

I thought it was, thanks. Usually UK pop-science programmes are my forte - not seen that one. Whoever edited it did quite a good job (apart from the error minute at the end!) Now, to work out how to put that in the title/tags...

Weren't those clips from the PBS Nova on string theory? I think the title was The Elegant Universe.

i don't believe the footage is from String Theory (here on the Sift) - not as far as I can remember anyway...I think some of it (the taxi part) maybe from my discarded The Worlds First Time Machine Sift too.

There's like 2.5 minutes of blackness and no audio at the end.
