Imagine how large their industry would be now if everyone had been required to own an origin VHS and lending it to a friend had resulted in jail or a lawsuit.

Also, like with the pirated games, the way to combat it is to offer a better product than the pirates. If pirates can offer the same or better at a lower cost, then it's obvious what will happen. If you, for instance, could stream porn for a very limited cost but higher resolution than then complete alternatives, then people would use that instead.
$1 adult flicks on iTunes could be a good way too (except Apple is Big Mother protecting all its users from filth and google products).

Well, I must be one of the biggest thieves on the net, I've been getting my porn for free since I got a computer over 10 years ago. I've never bought or rented a porn DVD or paid for anything more than a 3 day trial membership to a porn site. I even get all my tricks for free, I quit paying for sex when I stopped renting VHS tapes.
