With all those people and all those computers, it's only a matter of time that something like this happened. Who is behind it? Duh! The Chinese. I wonder when we'll have the world's first hot war that begins as a cyberwar. I mean, if a foreign country fries your electrical grid with malicious code, do you have the right, in terms of the "rules of war," to actually kill some of them and break their shit?

We can guess who it was.

Which country has the biggest technological brigade of troops?

Easy, china.

Firstly, it doesn't have to be a foreign country, one disgruntled employee, or yes even a foolish employee who downloaded something.

Excerpt form a meeting in Pentagon 2 weeks ago:

Commanding Officer: It looks like congress is going to subpoena all our records on enhanced interrogation, and we are all going to spend the rest of our lives in military prison.

Lackey: How about we get the guys down in IT to write a virus to erase the incriminating documents, and then imply that the Chinese did it?

For the record, personal storage media like thumb drives, floppy disks and CD/DVD-ROMS brought from home have been banned on DOD computers for a quite a while. The rule has not been enforced very well, but that is changing.

The most difficult obstacle in this part of the war is changing the culture. 99% of the people using computers in DOD do not understand computer security or view the computer as a weapon system just like a tank or a plane. Systems put in place to protect the network also tend to make things slower and/or less efficient. That means the end user sees computer security as a pain in the ass. Hell, even the tech guys see it as a pain in the ass.

If China wanted to hurt the US, they could easily STOP LOANING THEM BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

And who said that China had the "biggest technological brigade of troops" ?

Because the only media I've seen that "fact" in was the american media.

They might have, but one thing is sure, American media can not be trusted.

Why on earth are the most powerful forces on earth using an operating system that can be utilised by other countries let alone a foreign power?
There should not be one Microsoft product in the Pentagon. Not one. Thats what everybody else uses! If the US military wants to use something like Windows then it should be a military strength encoded system. (you listening Mr Gates? Or is it Mr Balmer now? : Give the guys something secure!).

Justify it! Justify using a household tool for military use!
