drattussays...You know, if money wasn't such a big part of the nuclear industry and planning too small a part people wouldn't have such a problem with it. Building them in places such as, I don't know, on the tail end of the San Andreas fault in San Clemente and oceanside as well just to make things interesting wasn't a bright idea.
The San Andreas, Elsinore and San Jacinto faults all come together in the area and they discovered a new one some years ago due to the fact it triggered a quake, there might be more yet to find and everyone knows it. Good place for a plant.
Some of the critics do go overboard but questioning the big subsidies we give this stuff while we invest so little in alternatives does seem to be a valid issue, and in at least a few cases safety concerns seem valid as well. I hate to see serious issues oversimplified like this, just because there's a fringe that's easy to attack that doesn't mean there aren't real issues somewhere under there.
