Being brazilian, one particular problem with our movies is how their language is usually "meant for export", so the dialogue sounds wierd and contrived to brazilian viewers.

That's not the case with City of God. What I enjoyed most about it is how real and convincing the language and most part of the acting performed by the kids was (maybe except for the characters in the 60's, which sound a bit too contemporary). The fact that they don't seem to be experienced in TV or theatrical acting, somehow actually helped.

Not that foreign viewers would notice, or care.

No chickens were harmed in the making of this film. Just Brazilians.

In all seriousness though I loved this fucking movie from start to end, has little to do with the camera work, it's an amazing story full of rich character development.

I liked this movie. Pretty freakin brutal but definitely worth watching.

Couldn't get into this movie, sadly. Can't put my finger on why, different people just have different tastes.

One of my top 5 films for sure - gotta watch the whole thing again now.
