Olbermann's Special Comment on New GOP Fear Ad

joedirtsays...

this might be the best commentaries of recent times. Olbermann must have another gig lined up, cause I can't imagine Universal keeping him around much longer.

One of the last true Americans left on television.

Quiz time!, who said this:

“Naturally the common people don’t want war. But after all, it is the
leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it’s always a
simple matter to drag people along whether it is a democracy or a
fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of
the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are
being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and
for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every
country."

Yup, damn google destroys every quiz I kinda expected people to google it, and find that it was infact one of the last things Herman Goering said before killing himself. I look at that quote and think of it as a sort of ultimate "confessions of a fascist regime" and how their leaders think. Its not too far-fetched to think that some of todays leaders are pretty damn close to that line of thought themselves. To reach the very top of the political arena in a place like the US, you need to be pretty determined and ruthless in your effort to become a leader. What drives them? the good of the people? visions of the future? Personal fortune? Power-hunger? all of the above? Is it possible that they'll do anything to achieve their goals?
