NeuralNoisesays...Evil diver. If the octopus dies of starvation it will be his fault!!
Octopussysays...If I ever get in a situation like that, I’d hope I’ll have a cool buddy like this cameraman who just goes on filming, filming, filming....
11807says...You can actually see a second diver behind the victim move in and try to assist his buddy. But seriously, what can you do short of grabbing your dive knife and start hacking off limbs?
This guy had the cool mentality to wait it out and not harm the octopus, which I give kudos to. If it were me though, I'd be cooking fresh seafood once back on the boat...
rottenseedsays...I think it's silly to take this "high ground" when dealing with nature on such a primal level. Dude, if your life is on the line: Cut the f*cker. Law of the jungle Article 56 § 3.5.4, paragraph 1 clearly permits the taking of another animal's life when one's life is being threatened. Later paragraphs go on to describe specifics about killing in the name of sustenance.

Explain to me why that wouldn't have been a good option?
gwiz665says...Knife to eye = good option
Whine and die = bad option
I don't really see the conflict either.
11807says...That's just the thing ridesallyridenc...it WOULD HAVE been a good option, but it never went that far. Besides, the diver was too busy trying to keep his mask on and reg in his mouth. Given that they were wearing dry suits and at depth (about 100 feet, my guess, given most wrecks are about 100 or deeper), when ice cold water starts to flood into your mask and up your nose, it's enough to get even the most experienced divers to panic in that situation. So mask and regulator were priority one.
And who knows, no one could have been carrying a dive knife with them anyway...
alizarinsays...The octopus was like 1/4 the size of the diver - I think it was a cornered animal, not a hungry monster.
